The idea of creating a vessel, with the rich history that surrounds forms made of clay, is one that continually excites Sharon. The process of throwing, turning, decorating and firing always feels fresh and new to her, each piece taking on a life of its own. Sharon never rushes the decoration and likes to sit for a while with the piece on the wheel in front of her to think about how best to complement its shape.
Sharon’s inspiration for the decoration comes from a combination of shapes found in nature, memories of light and colour found in California, where she lived for many years until recently, and the highly decorated Turkish Iznik pottery. Sharon is based in her small back garden studio on the Hertfordshire and Essex border in Bishop’s Stortford.
