Aila is an artist from Finland now living in Hertfordshire, England.
Her Scandinavian heritage permeates through her work with texture, and fuses with colours that reflect her personality to become something truly unique and energetic. Aila’s work reflects the colours and textures of the rocky environment of her homeland, Finland.
Much of her work is constructed by the slab-building technique with paper clay, which is glazed and fired to stoneware to achieve vitrification. Aila’s work is always on display in galleries both in the UK and abroad.
Aila’s studio is based at Parndon Mill in Harlow.

On the 26th and 29th February Aila held a ceramics workshop in her studio where over 2 days I made and glazed a handmade piece of work from a generous clump of clay. I could create whatever I wanted and with Aila’s guidance, a calming atmosphere and plenty of coffee, Aila’s humour and charm made the 2 sessions very welcoming and enjoyable.
Throughout the workshop I could have as much or as little help from Aila. No matter my skill or knowledge, I was taken care of. – Rhianna
